The Anticipated First Day

After all of the IEP fighting I was finally ready to enjoy watching Yester go off to school. We chose to send him on a part-time schedule and work up to the full-time schedule. Mrs. T waits for him every morning and walks him to us every afternoon. She said his first day was great! He put his planet lunch box in his rocket cubby and enjoyed the days activities. He really liked playing with all of the kids at recess. He’s using the toilet with verbal prompting and minimal physical prompting. I love getting his back pack full of comments from his in-class therapists and his stack of art work.
With the regression we’re noticing that school couldn’t have come at a better time. After one full week, Yester is now at the full schedule. We’re up together at 7 every morning to be there by 8 and then we pick him up at 1:30 p.m. Now, he really wants and shows an interest in taking the bus. Dad and I are discussing it and we may consider the bus for the ride home only. Time will tell.
My little boy is in school. He loves it! I love it! And I can’t wait to see what progress we make with the new year coming.

Congratulations! I know it has been tough journey and it’s not over, but this is a milestone to celebrate. Your story is an inspiration, thank you for sharing it.
